Gifted students require a unique, advanced, and challenging educational program in order to enhance the development of their special abilities.It is the position of the school board to actively promote and develop a qualitatively differentiated educational program for the gifted students in order to facilitate the fullest development of their potential. General Intellectual Aptitude Gifted students, K-7, are served in their home schools and in heterogeneous classrooms where they may participate in activities with gifted and non- gifted students. Gifted students accomplishments, grades, and course selection will be tracked. Gifted students need educational opportunities that will allow them to pursue their interests and reach their greatest potential.Gifted students need opportunities to interact with other gifted students.Gifted students need opportunities to interact with all students.Our mission is to recognize, nurture, and enhance the exceptional abilities of gifted students.In Hanover County Public Schools, education for the gifted is based on the following principles: Gifted students, as identified by professionally qualified persons, are those who by virtue of outstanding abilities are capable of superior performance.ĬONCURRENT ENROLLMENT (courses taken for both high school and college credit)Due to the limited space in these courses Seniors will be given preference in enrollment in concurrent enrollment courses followed by Juniors and Gifted students. 3.Įxamples of Gifted students in a sentence Such students demonstrate or have the potential to demonstrate superior reasoning persistent intellectual curiosity advanced use of language exceptional problem solving rapid acquisition and mastery of facts, concepts, and principles and creative and imaginative expression beyond their age-level peers in selected academic areas that include English, history and social science, mathematics, or science. Such students demonstrate or have the potential to demonstrate superior reasoning persistent intellectual curiosity advanced use of language exceptional problem solving rapid acquisition and mastery of facts, concepts, and principles and creative and imaginative expression across a broad range of intellectual disciplines beyond their age-level peers. These students will be identified by professionally qualified persons through the use of multiple criteria as having potential or demonstrated aptitudes in one or more of the following areas: 1. Their aptitudes and potential for accomplishment are so outstanding that they require special programs to meet their educational needs. Gifted students means those students in public elementary, middle, and secondary schools beginning with kindergarten through twelfth grade who demonstrate high levels of accomplishment or who show the potential for higher levels of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment.
